ZOA is a Christian, international NGO. The international work of ZOA is coordinated from the Netherlands. ZOA is active in multiple countries in Africa, Middle East Region and Asia. ZOA works approximately with 900 employees worldwide. 

ZOA has been operational in Ethiopia since 1993 and focuses on humanitarian responses and longer-term development programmes in food security and livelihoods, value chain development, peacebuilding, WASH, access to energy, home grown school meals in Gambella, Addis Ababa, Somali Region, Oromia Region and Tigray. ZOA works with refugees, IDPs and vulnerable local communities.

Grant Manager

Purpose of the position                            

The Grant Manager plays a central and strategic role in supporting ZOA to secure grants that allow the organisation to fulfil its mission in Ethiopia. The role involves executing pre-award tasks to identity potential grant opportunities and is managing overall grant acquisition processes in close collaboration with the Manager of Programme Quality, ZOA’s Fundraising and Communications department in the Netherlands and consortium partners when relevant. The Grant Manager is based at ZOA Apeldoorn and reports to the Country Director in Ethiopia. Travel to Ethiopia is expected.

Your main tasks and responsibilities

Grant Management

  • Maintain overview of all donor requirements, rules and regulations (in coordination with Manager of Programme Quality), and internal and external deadlines and disseminate them to the field team;
  • Identify and develop strategies to optimize the grants administration process;
  • Provide training to ZOA staff on grants management and reporting requirements;
  • Keep up to date with in country donor policies, applications, calls for proposals and reporting processes, and ensure compliance to policies and guidelines.

Proposal and report writing

  • Support the MOPQ and Area Managers in the design and preparation of project proposals, with a particular emphasis on matching design to donor strategies and requirements;
  • Provide timelines for project proposal development involving all relevant staff in ZOA Ethiopia and ZOA Netherlands, and follows up on progress to ensure deadlines are met;
  • Support the finalization of project reports to donors, ZOA Apeldoorn and local government bodies;
  • Compile all required supporting documentation for proposals.

Donor Engagement

  • Develop and manage a donor engagement strategy with existing and potential donors in close collaboration with Manager of Program Quality as a part of overall ZOA Ethiopia strategy.

Fundraising

  • Develop, implement and review comprehensive fundraising strategies and plans to ensure clear and achievable fundraising objectives in cooperation with the Country Director and the Manager of Programme Quality;
  • Works with FoCo (Fundraising and Communications) department in the Netherlands focusing on the Ethiopia portfolio and fundraising efforts;
  • Supports ZOA Ethiopia to achieve positive visibility through developing and implementing a communication strategy;
  • Work with existing and potential consortium partners when appropriate and relevant to ZOA Ethiopia’s fundraising strategy.

Your profile

Identity

  • Being a Christian adhering to the Christian identity of ZOA;

Knowledge and skills

  • This position demands a dynamic individual with a demonstrated ability to achieve the required results in a demanding and fast paced environment, managing time effectively, and adapting priorities to respond to changing demands and tight deadlines across multiple time zones;
  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in international development, humanitarian studies, business, management or other sector-specific technical area;
  • Excellent written English;
  • Strong formulation and writing skills;
  • High level of proficiency with project design using logical frameworks, and MEAL;
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in development programming;
  • Working knowledge and experience of Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS);
  • Experience managing multiple tasks and ability to be proactive;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team;
  • Experience in narrative reporting on development projects to international donors;
  • Experience in implementing projects within partner networks or consortia;
  • Willingness and ability to travel to Ethiopia;
  • Cultural sensitivity and proven experience in working in Ethiopia with international NGOs strongly desired;
  • Excellent administrative, planning, and organizational, and leadership skills;
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving capacities;
  • Strong computer literacy;
  • Ability to manage stress, multi-task and take decisions.

Special conditions

  • The Grant Coordinator must be available and ready to be deployed at short notice (deployment is unaccompanied). ZOA will ensure the post-holder receives technical and operational inductions, as well as security training.
