Strengthening Inclusive Partnerships for Smallholders in Rainfed Areas in Sudan
The Strengthening Inclusive Partnerships for Smallholders in Rainfed Areas (SIPRA) program is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. The program aims to improve household food and nutrition security, as well as achieve sustainable, resilient, and fair economic development of smallholders and Small, and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs) in the rainfed agriculture areas in Darfur and Kordofan in Sudan. To understand the food systems to inform sector transformation and value chain development, SIPRA adopted a participatory approach to co-design with local experts and knowledge institutions a conflict, gender, and nutrition-sensitive Food Systems Resilience Assessment (FoSRA). This paper introduces the FoSRA approach, which is a continuously evolving method to assess the functioning and behavior of a food system under the influence of shocks and stressors in protracted crises. Based on the assessment, stakeholders together can identify and validate resilience pathways, develop strategies, and provide relevant policy recommendations.
